The Truth about American Policing

Obed Magny: The Truth about American Policing Dr. Seku Gathers

Good People,

Today I had the honor of interviewing Dr. Obed Magny, an expert in motivation, job satisfaction, diversity, trauma and emotional intelligence. He’s a police officer working toward police reform, including implementing evidence-based police training around the country. He’s also the founder of the American Society of Evidence-Based Policing.

Obed’s truth was the realization that success is not linear. No one’s path to success looks like anyone else’s, and more than anything else, it requires patience and consistency. As our conversation progressed, he shared his thoughts around a recent shooting that happened in Sacramento, where he works as a police officer and his thoughts around that. As we wrapped up the conversation, we also discussed the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership and public service capacities, and how self-awareness is key to both personal and organizational growth.
